News releases from The Digital Archives.
Earlier this week, we released some updates to our search pages. Read more about the changes on this page Changes to search pages.
We have also added a large amount of newly scanned material. See latest added sources for more information.
The Digital Archives editorial staff start their summer holiday this weekend, which means there will be no further publications in July. The support telephone is open between 10 a.m and 2 p.m, and it may take a little longer than usual before you receive an answer to e-mail enquiries.
With this picture from a 1960 edition of the magazine "Now!", we wish all our users and contributers a happy summer!
The Digital Archives has received a new look! There are also a number of changes to search functions and result display, but the content of searchable and scanned source material remains the same.
Re-organized main page
The Digital Archives main page was previously more of a collections of links, and thus difficult to navigate for new users. We have now created clear entry points to the various categories of source material, for example property and probate archives.
The pages now adapt to the screen they are being displayed on. This makes it much easier to use The Digital Archives on mobile phones and tablets, in addition to regular computer screens.
Name variant search
Person name search will now automatically return results for the variants of those names for which you are searching. This allows you to find individuals whose name are spelled differently from what you might expect. Read more about name variant search here name variant search .
A few things left to fix
This was a major re-design of The Digital Archives, and this meant that we were unable to get all the planned functions in place for the release date on 6th June. However a number of the functions you are used to, plus some new ones are already in the development pipeline.
